The May 13th deadline Gilmer Arts and Ellijay Wine Country are proud to host the 2nd annual “Plein Air at the Vineyards”. Regional artists will be working outdoors “En Plein Air” in and around the vineyards over a three day weekend beginning Friday June 10th, and ending Sunday June 12th with a live auction at each of the 5 vineyards, featuring artists’ works created over the 3-day event (plus additional original works) . Passports will enable patrons to visit and sample wine at each of the 4 participating vineyards, as well as participate in all event activities, including the Opening Reception. New! Logo Design Contest for 2017!
Plein Air at the Vineyards is excited to announce the 2017 Logo Design Contest. All artists registered for the 2016 Plein Air at the Vineyards event are eligible to enter a painting to be considered for the 2017 Plein Air at the Vineyards logo. The winning painting will be selected by the event committee. Criteria:
- Theme – A generic depiction (not vineyard specific) of an artist painting “en plein air” in one of the Ellijay Wine Country Vineyards.
- Medium – Artists choice.
- Deadline – August 19, 2016. Works may be painted during this year’s event, or submitted on or before the deadline from sketches done onsite, or from sketches or photographs after the event ends.
- Selection/Announcement of the Winner – The winner will be announced on September 9, 2016.
The winning work will be used in the logo for the 2017 Plein Air at the Vineyards, and the artist will receive a complementary registration to the 2017 event.

Our monthly series of kids’ drawing classes are a great skill-builder and a fun time for kids ages 6-10. Art Instructor Rachel Beth Hines steps the kids through age-appropriate drawings, as they learn skills like shading, perspective and more using hard and soft pencils. All supplies provided. About Kelly Bingham
Kelly Bingham is the award-winning author of Z is for Moose, Shark Girl, Formerly Shark Girl, and Circle, Square, Moose. Her early professional life began with a degree in animation from Cal Arts. She went on to work at Walt Disney Feature Animation for several years. She worked on films including Atlantis, Hercules, The Emperorer’s New Groove and Tarzan. She then proceeded to earn a MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College. After that she left animation and decided to write full time. Kelly lives in Ellijay with her husband and children.

Gilmer Arts Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition in our 4th Exhibition series of B.E.S.T. Visual Arts. Come see the fabulous one-man exhibition by Billy Roper, the “Visual Story Teller”. You’re invited to attend the reception on April 8th, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm to meet the artist, see his work, mingle with like-minded folks & enjoy refreshments. Our gallery is located at 207 Dalton Street is free to the public.
Mr. Roper’s works include an expressive style of painting that combines imagery and handwriting that tells a story. If you enjoy paintings that tell stories or depict emotions this is the show for you!
The exhibit runs through May 14th. We’re open M-F 10am-5pm & Sat’s Noon-5pm.
